Funds for Young Investors – Part II
As an update of my earlier Stock-Net post about Investing for Kids, I have discovered a new fund that was recently launched that is targeted specifically for young investors. The fund is the Monetta Young Investor Fund, symbol MYIFX.
This fund was launched in mid-December, and is targeted specifically for young investors. The fund also has a special website for young investors, that includes lots of information to increase the financial literacy of beginning investors. There are games on the site and even a way to earn tuition credits based on your account balances.
The Monetta Young Investor fund’s investment profile is built around a core of S&P500 index tracking, with the remainder invested in stocks that are recognizable brand names by kids, including stocks like Hershey’s, McDonald’s, and Google. The purchase minimums for the fund are $1,000 or $250 + $25/month. Keep this fund in mind as a good first fund for a young investor.
